Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who is bright, enthusiastic, and works comfortably in a team environment.  This is an excellent opportunity for a mid- to senior-level estimator with a strong background in commercial, institutional, government, and transportation sector architectural and engineering design projects. The selected candidate will be an integral part of our project management team, supervising technical personnel and overseeing all project phases. We will rely on this individual to provide quality care and responsiveness to client needs, proactively manage projects, communicate and collaborate with firm leadership and the project management team on company goals, vision, and financial stewardship, and be a leader in managing and mentoring a team of cost estimators.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages client relationships, handling the timely preparation of fees, project and schedule management and ensuring client satisfaction
  • Responsible for completing difficult and complex assignments, directing the work of other cost estimators
  • Ensures that projects are completed within the allotted time and budget
  • Oversees and performs accurate, thorough and timely quantity takeoffs using company format for all levels of project documents (schematic, design development and construction documents)
  • Manages multiple projects concurrently, with the ability to multitask
  • Obtains clarification on plans and specifications from architects and engineers when necessary
  • Attends project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interviews as required
  • Develops and analyzes value engineering options
  • Develops knowledge in building designs, systems and construction materials through available resources and uses this knowledge in guiding the owner towards a viable project
  • Proficient in software programs used in preconstruction, including MII, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), E-Takeoff, and Sage
  • Prepares and presents cost estimates to clients in a manner that builds effective relationships and exceeds expectations
  • Builds relationships with design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company's core values
  • Some travel may be required 


    • BA or BS preferred
    • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance
    • 10 to 12 years of progressive equivalent work experience in a related field required, preferably within the A/E/C industry
    • Knowledge in some or all of the following areas: civil/site construction; foundations; structural systems; interior finishes; interior and exterior building wall systems; and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
    • Cost-related certification (AACE International preferred)
    • Ability to estimate all aspects of a commercial construction project, assemble into one budget, and present to owners
    • Ability to oversee, work in and organize teams
    • Ability to operate as a "stand-alone" estimator and complete projects with minimal guidance
    • Ability to use estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff (OST), E-Takeoff, MII, and Sage
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, especially MS Excel
    • Ability to use or quickly learn project management software
    • Excellent problem-solving abilities
    • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
