Toscano Clements Taylor is a minority certified cost estimating and cost management firm with strategically located offices in New York, New Jersey and Washington DC. Our team of highly skilled cost estimators work on more than 400 projects per annum across a broad spectrum of market segments with significant focus on Federal, State and City agency projects. Our client base includes prominent architects, engineers, building owners, federal & municipal agencies and the firm has provided services on some of the world's most celebrated projects. 

Recent growth has created a need for an additional position – a mechanical/structural/ electrical estimator to work in our core industries of federal, K-12 & higher education, science & technology and healthcare. This position can be based in our Washington DC, Huntington, Long Island, or NYC office. You will produce cost estimates from conceptual through CD phases and work closely with design professionals to accomplish the best design for the client's value.

Job description

  • Review project scope reports, narratives, 2D or 3D construction drawings, specifications, to prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects for all levels of design (schematic, design development and, construction documents).
  • Obtain clarification on plans and specifications from the design team including Architects, Structural Engineers, Geotech Engineers, and MEP engineers and collaborate with Project Owners, Design Teams, and subject-matter-experts to ascertain an accurate perspective of the total project scope, level of design discipline coordination, adequacy of details, and project constructability
  • Attend project site tours, scope meetings, and project kick-off meeting.
  • Apply working knowledge of mathematics, mathematical formulas and engineering principles to analyze, calculate and generate construction cost items in the cost model.
  • For conceptual/schematic estimates, apply comprehensive knowledge of construction techniques and systems, structural design principles, sizing of MEP equipment based on design loads, applicable building code in order to price various design alternatives, to allow the design team to evaluate alternative building systems to make informed alternatives analysis decisions to advance the design progress.
  • Perform accurate and thorough quantity take-offs using 2D/3D estimating software like On-Screen takeoffs, Bluebeam, Revit etc., to determine quantity and magnitude of construction scope items
  • Solicit subcontractor and vendor prices. Develop unit costs accurately from market analysis, cost databases like RS Means, State prevailing wages, vendor bids, etc.
  • Prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates for review by Senior Estimator;
  • Apply the highest level of detail to estimate quantities and costs for all material, labor, equipment, and subcontract items of work and determine overhead, profit, taxes, and bond for change order proposal estimation to allow the client to determine acceptability of the proposal
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops;

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to produce detailed quantity take-offs using OST.
  • Able to produce accurate cost estimates from high level concept estimate through detailed construction documents estimate
  • Ability to generate Value Engineering ideas that help our clients reducing the cost while maintaining the quality
  • Proven experience in material and equipment prices and various labor rates in tri-borough and DC market
  • Experience in liaising with architects and engineers and reconciliation with CM's or other estimating offices
  • Proven experience which shows initiative and independent thought
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple, concurrent projects & aggressive deadlines
  • Exceptional problem solving, organizational & time management skills with high level of attention to detail
  • Team player with a positive attitude who can also work independently, is self-motivated and success driven, yet able and willing to take direction
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Architecture, Civil/ Structural Engineering, or Construction Management for general construction cost estimation.

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering for Mechanical & Plumbing cost estimation.

OR

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Electrical Engineering for Electrical cost estimation.
